Castel Pietraio is situated in Tuscany, one of the richest italian regions for its history and traditions, and exactly in the territory of Monteriggioni few kilometres far from Siena and San Gimignano. It stately rises with its ancient walls and towers, withnesses of its glorious past, at the foot of Mount Maggio, in the Sienese Montagnola. It is easy to get there from the exit Monteriggioni on the motorway from Florence to Siena (the so-called Autopalio) and then following the directions Strada Statale n° 541 to be found at about two kilometres far from the old village of Badia Isola. Considering its geographical position, the castle is the ideal starting point either for interesting cultural excursions to the nearby Florence, Siena, Colle Val d' Elsa, San Gimignano, Volterra, Cortona and Pienza ; or for healthy ecological walks in the woods of the farm where, among spontaneous official plants and shrubs, it is possible to see very rare animal species such as the squirrel, the wild cat, the marten and the badger. In its surroundings it is possible to do riding, only 400 metres far in the nearby Strove, moreover for those who do not want to leave there are a grocer's shop and a typical restaurant.
